This glossary provides an overview of the terms that are used within 2X Certification.

A 2X Certificate is issued by the 2X Certification Body to an Entity upon satisfactory completion of steps 1-4 of the 2X Certification Process.
A 2X Certificate will include the following information:
i. the 2X Certification Level achieved by the relevant Entity together with the relevant 2X Certification Seal;
ii. a scorecard which sets out the list of Dimensions and Themes met or committed to by the relevant Entity; and
iii. details of the Third-Party Verifier and an indication of their 2X Global training status
Each 2X Certificate will be publicly disclosed on the 2X Global Certification List.
A 2X Certificate is valid for 2 years, following which an Entity must recertify to maintain their 2X Certification.

2X Certification is a formal certification that assesses and recognises Entities actively implementing gender-smart practices. Designed to go beyond compliance, 2X Certification encourages entities to embed inclusive practices that drive meaningful and measurable gender equity, aligning with best practices and contributing to broader social and economic goals.

The 2X Certification Body is a dedicated separate business unit of 2X Global, responsible for oversight of the 2X Certification Process, monitoring the 2X Certification Platform, creating guidance, supporting Users and issuing a 2X Certificate to Entities that have completed steps 1-4 of the 2X Certification Process.

A directory that is published on the 2X Certification website setting out the list of Entities that have been 2X certified and issued with a 2X Certificate. The 2X Certificate is publicly disclosed in this directory. The directory can be accessed here.

On the satisfaction of steps 1-4 (inclusive) of the 2X Certification Process, Entities can achieve one of three 2X Certificate levels— ‘Good’, ‘Advanced’, and ‘Best-in-Class’. Each 2X Certification Level indicates the depth and breadth of an Entity’s gender-smart eorts following analysis of Gender Lens Disclosures through application of the 2X Certification Methodology.

The 2X Certification Methodology assesses the depth and breadth of an Entity’s gender-smart practices and policies through a framework comprising:
i) a Basic 2X ESG screen,
ii) Dimensions, and
iii) Themes,
These Dimensions and Themes are analysed using a set of cross-cutting assessment questions. These questions link to the Indicators used to evaluate and score the depth and breadth of an Entity’s gender-smart practices as part of “step 1: 2X Certification Self-Assessment”

2X Certification Platform is the tech platform on which the 2X Certification Process is hosted. It captures steps 1-4 of the 2X Certification Process.

The 2X Certification Process comprises a 4-step process which Entities are required to complete in order to be issued with a 2X Certificate.
The 2X Certification Process includes the following;
(i) step 1: 2X Certification Self-Assessment;
(ii) step 2: View Indicative Results;(iii) step 3: Third-Party Verification;
(iv) step 4: Issuance of the 2X Certificate;
Post “step 4: Issuance of the 2X Certificate”, we strongly recommend Entities continue to strengthen gender-smart practices as an ongoing process to further improve.

A visual, digital symbol is added to a 2X Certificate to demonstrate the 2X Certification Level achieved by an Entity.
The 2X Certification Seal can be displayed on websites, social media, and marketing materials, allowing Entities to publicly showcase their commitment to gender equity.

2X Criteria is the global industry standard for assessing and structuring investments that provide women with leadership opportunities, quality employment, finance, enterprise support, and products and services that enhance economic participation and access. They have been widely adopted by investors, financial
intermediaries and companies as well as other stakeholders worldwide to assess and monitor gender lens investments, unifying the field under one framework and language.
The 2X Criteria have been harmonised and integrated into major finance standard setting frameworks and have been adopted by hundreds of capital providers reaching thousands of businesses globally.

An organisation which is registered on the 2X Certification Platform to comply with steps 1-4 of the 2X Certification Process in accordance with relevant terms and conditions.

All information, data and documents which have:
(i) been uploaded to the 2X Certification Platform by or on behalf of an Entity or otherwise approved by an Entity; and
(ii) any other evidence and/or document submitted directly to a Third-Party Verifier provided that any such information or documents are referred to in the Verification Report,
in each case for the purposes of completing the 2X Certification Process. -
The specific measures used to analyse and score an Entity's gender-smart practices across Dimensions and Themes within the 2X Certification Methodology. Assessment questions are designed to gather the data needed for calculating Indicators, which are based on the same underlying parameters.

An independent professional services firm, consultancy firm and/or ratings agency which is regularly engaged in the application, monitoring and verifying of environmental, social and/or governance standards, methodologies and/or criteria and is not an afiliate of the Entity or any related Entity.
It is strongly recommended that Third-Party Verifiers complete training offered by the 2X Certification Body. Additional information can be found on the 2X Certification website. -
The User Guide provides Users with details of the 2X Certification Process including the 2X Certification Methodology and the steps that an Entity must comply with in order to satisfactorily meet the 2X Certification Level requirements and be issued with a 2X Certificate.

The report submitted by a Third-Party Verifier to the 2X Certification Platform which is in form and substance satisfactory to the 2X Certification Body. Additional information can be found on the 2X Certification website.
